Create a custom 404 page for Blogger / Blogspot blogs
Content Management Systems like WordPress, Joomla and Drupal allows you to create a custom 404 page for your website. Themes and templates for these CMSs have default functionality to return the 404 page when the requested content is not found on your site.
Coming to the topic, Blogger previously didn’t provide such facility to bloggers to add custom 404 message when the content is not found on the blog. Instead, it used to reflect a default message, “Sorry, the page you were looking for in this blog does not exist.” in such a situation. ut with the new Blogger, you can add custom 404 page for Blogger or blogspot blogs.
Creating a custom 404 page for your Blogger blog is so simple, it’s just a matter of 2-3 steps. With the help of this short guide, you can easily setup a custom 404 Page Not Found error page for your Blogger blog.
Setup custom 404 page for Blogger blogs
- After logging into your Blogger account, click the drop-down triangle as shown in the below screenshot and select Settings (refer below screenshot).
- Now, under settings, click the sub-option Search Preferences. You’ll see the option Custom Page Not Found option therein, which is on [Not Set] mode by default. Click the “Edit” link.
- Clicking “Edit” will bring a textbox where you can put your custom 404 Page Not Found error message.
So, we have successfully added a custom 404 message which will appear on a “Page Not Found” situation on our Blogger blog. Have a look how this custom 404 error page appeared when I tested it:
